Ceád Mile Fáilte

A couple of interesting news items today.

First, I've noticed that the total view count odometer for Servitor Ludi has just "turned over" at 100,000.  This number is small potatoes for a three-and-a-half year old blog, but I'm proud nevertheless.  Thanks so much to all readers past and present.

Second, I ought to announce that in January 2015, my family and I will be moving.  I've gotten a new job in Colorado, and it looks like our stretch of roughly 18 years in New England are just about over.  That pretty much matches the only other span of time I've spent in one place -- birth to age 18, in New Jersey.  (To quote Archie Bunker, "Nobody wants to live there, but someone has to!")

Does English have a word that simultaneously means "excited," "optimistic," and "nervous" -- with a hint of "scared out of our wits" thrown in for good measure?  Well, let's call it kltpzyxm.  We're quite kltpzyxm about this next step.  :-)

Post title:  Irish for "a hundred thousand welcomes."

  1. Cygnus, are you moving to Boulder? I lived there for 16 years (before a work opportunity dragged me to the East Coast - I've been working near Princeton the past 7 years). Colorado is spectacular, good luck with the move!

    1. Thanks, John (= Beedo, right?). Yup, I'm gonna be a Buffalo.

I also spent a few summers in Princeton as an undergrad... in fact it's where this story took place. It's very much the exception to the Jersey doldrums that John Gorka sang about in the link above. :-)

  2. Colorado! I can't pretend I know it well but I've visited a few times. The West feels like a different planet to me. Good luck with the move.

Continuing our geomancy discussion, you may have a point with the beat counting. It's also a control issue. I have the same problem with Ouija boards and the like. I don't quite trust that I can give over my own willful intent. Control issues - definitely a musician thing.

    1. I know what you mean about the West... the furthest "out there" I've ever lived for longer than a month is Ohio. :-)

I'm not sure I would have associated excessive control with musicians. The popular perception is laid back and loosey goosey...

    2. Musicians and control - depends on one's background and training, I suppose. Conducting, and teaching for that matter, gives one the illusion of authority. But actually, I find I'm better at both when I give that up a little. Walking the thin line between order and chaos - that's where you find the good stuff.

Which leads right back to the geomancy, doesn't it? Hmm...

    3. Not bad. We're up in the air about the house buying/selling thing. I really don't want to go to a temp apartment between houses, but I don't know if it'll be possible to buy a new house first, then sell the old one later.
