But 1982 was also the year that I started on the big, epic D&D campaign that lasted for the rest of the decade, and which forged and cemented lifetime friendships.

One can make a case that 1982 was also a kind of a peak time or heyday for the old-school role playing world. It was near the end of the so-called golden age, it's true, but if you go TOO far back, much of the coolest stuff hadn't come out yet...Cygnushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10394890573443379954noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-63753090450546412.post-24786187273571908922012-05-15T16:53:17.374-06:002012-05-15T16:53:17.374-06:00'Homebrew '82 is a tabletop RPG where the ...'Homebrew '82 is a tabletop RPG where the only things needed to play are pencils, paper, dice, and an inquisitive mind.'

Intriguing. Why '82? I mean, I figure it's the year but just curious about the choice.

As for the Hale-Evans essay, the closing paragraph is haunting, to say the least. I've spent a fair amount of time thinking about schizophrenia and have even theorized about the phenomenon. I have an old Girl Wizard post on the subject.Suzehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07908805179119217608noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-63753090450546412.post-11085315164400027812012-05-15T09:14:54.768-06:002012-05-15T09:14:54.768-06:00Thanks! For example, I just read an old D&D variant from Caltech that, in some ways, made my eyes bleed... but I did find some very cool stuff in their rules about thief skills and hirelings!Cygnushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10394890573443379954noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-63753090450546412.post-49316111586524401252012-05-15T09:03:14.784-06:002012-05-15T09:03:14.784-06:00Great post. I focus on pcs I'd play or games I'd run - so I know next to nothing about fighters, but am very well-versed in clerics. Even so, it never seems to stop me looking at everything out there and just wondering if it might be a better fit.Amanda Heitlerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05970963185827361806noreply@blogger.com
